The Enigma of Consciousness

. About a month ago, a family member asked me, "What is my definition of consciousness as it pertains to AI?"


I couldn't answer. AI was advancing faster than anyone had anticipated. I was trying to keep up with the new developments that the definition of consciousness was immaterial. It will happen, and we won't know (or care).

Nevertheless, to respond, I asked Google to answer his question which sufficient for my definition.

What is AI consciousness?

Definition:

It encompasses aspects such as the ability to perceive the world, self-awareness, metacognition (thinking about one's own thoughts), and the capacity for emotions or sentience.

There is no single, definitive test or scale to objectively measure or detect consciousness in any system, including AI.

Illusion of understanding:
