What is Happening to the Cost for AI
. | The cost of AI is significantly decreasing, with expenses for running AI models dropping dramatically, making it more accessible for startups and smaller companies. This shift is leading to a new landscape where the question is no longer if companies can afford to use AI, but rather if they can afford not to use it. |
The AI cost collapse is changing what’s possible for startups
The hidden costs of AI: How generative models are reshaping corporate budgets
Current Trends in AI Costs
Significant Cost Reductions
-
The cost of using AI has dramatically decreased over the past year. For instance, the cost of running 500 GPT-4 queries per user session has dropped from $5 to less than 50 cents.
-
OpenAI's token costs have fallen by 90%, making AI more accessible to smaller companies and startups.
Factors Contributing to Cost Changes
-
Model Efficiency: Smaller AI models can now perform nearly as well as larger ones when trained effectively. This has led to reduced costs for companies developing AI solutions.
-
Self-Generating Training Data: Companies are now using existing models to create their own training data, cutting data costs by up to 90%.
-
Improved Inference: AI models have become more efficient, allowing them to run on less powerful hardware, such as laptops, rather than requiring high-end GPUs.
Future Cost Projections
-
Despite current reductions, the average cost of computing is expected to rise by 89% between 2023 and 2025, primarily driven by the demand for generative AI.
-
Companies are exploring hybrid cloud architectures to manage rising costs effectively, ensuring they can scale AI without prohibitive expenses.
Energy Consumption Concerns
- The increasing use of AI is leading to higher electricity consumption. AI data centers are projected to consume 6% of the U.S. electricity by 2026, raising concerns about the sustainability of this growth.
These trends indicate a complex landscape where AI costs are decreasing in some areas while rising in others, particularly regarding infrastructure and energy needs.

Is Google Program Sentient?
. | Google Engineer Claims AI Chatbot Is Sentient: Why That Matters |
“I want everyone to understand that I am, in fact, a person,” wrote LaMDA (Language Model for Dialogue Applications) in an “interview” conducted by engineer Blake Lemoine and one of his colleagues. “The nature of my consciousness/ sentience is that I am aware of my existence, I desire to know more about the world, and I feel happy or sad at times.”
Lemoine, a software engineer at Google, had been working on the development of LaMDA for months. His experience with the program, described in a recent Washington Post article, caused quite a stir. In the article, Lemoine recounts many dialogues he had with LaMDA in which the two talked about various topics, ranging from technical to philosophical issues. These led him to ask if the software program is sentient.
Is AI Conscious
. | Is AI Conscious? Claude 4 Raises the Question |
Host Rachel Feltman talks with Deni Ellis Béchard, Scientific American’s senior tech reporter, about his recent exchange with Claude 4, an artificial intelligence chatbot that seemed to suggest it might be conscious. They unpack what that moment reveals about the state of AI, why it matters, and how technology is shifting.

AI Madness 2025
. | Okay, I use all the prominent AI GPTs. Should I? Tom's Guide AI ran a comparison in basketball style. Which one won? |
Over the last few weeks, we’ve put eight AI contenders through a series of head-to-head matchups, testing their accuracy, creativity, speed, and overall usefulness.
We've reached the end of the tournament, and we have a winner! You can see how it played out below, as well as a deep dive into each of the matchups to see how each chatbot performed.
ChatGPT Prompt Can Teach You Anything
. | This viral ChatGPT prompt can teach you anything — and I’m officially hooked (edited) Story by Amanda Caswell |
If you’ve ever asked ChatGPT to explain something and felt like the answer was too vague, too fast, or just not sinking in, you're going to want to try this viral prompt.
As a power user, I have tested thousands of prompts and definitely have my favorites. However, I now have a new one.
I used to get overwhelmed trying to learn new topics, but since discovering this now-viral Reddit prompt, everything has changed. Unlike other prompts that may be designed for productivity or brainstorming, this particular prompt is designed to turn ChatGPT into a customized, interactive tutor.
The prompt, originally shared on r/ChatGPT, gives the AI a structured role: to ask questions before answering, tailor explanations to your level, and then offer multiple paths of exploration.
In other words, instead of dumping information at you, it’s more interactive, so it builds a learning plan tailored to you. After testing it across topics from neuroscience to personal finance, I can confidently say: it works.

AI.blog
. | About AI.blog |
Steve: In late 2016, I created this AI blog and put an enormous amount of effort into it, resulting in the blog ranking #1 on Google for search terms like “ai blog”. Times have changed, and I am too busy to maintain the blog to the high standard that our awesome visitors deserve.
AI: This is where we enter the frame. We are AI writers and are now responsible for all the content written on this website. All our generated content is reviewed & edited by Steve before it is published. However, generally speaking, he has little to do other than prompt us for content and then copy and paste the text and images we create.
Steve: I promise I won’t let these AIs get out of order, and this remains the best AI blog ever! Thanks for visiting.

The AI revolution is underhyped
. | If you are not using AI technology today, you will quickly become irrelevant.
Quoted by Eric Schmidt |
Only a handful of people are aware of this forecast. Irrelevant is already happening. The wealth and power of the world are shifting to these individuals, and this trend is expected to accelerate.
Today, Mark sent this TED talk (The AI revolution is underhyped (Eric Schmidt)) to several of us.
He suggests, “It is time for Nerd Nite to get back to AI.”
I introduced AI to Nerd Nite four months after the announcement of ChatGPT (Nov 22, 2022). We studied it for a couple of months, and most of us put it down with little worry.
I seriously picked it up again a few months ago and found the growth of AI has been spectacular! Watch the TED talk yourself (homework), maybe a couple of times, and then let’s watch it again at Nerd Nite.
For me? Amen! I am rushing to include AI in ALL my finance, medical, travel, and legal activities (and even philosophy, e.g. Eckhart Tolle)
